Editor Faraj Sarkuhi reportedly released

Faraj Sarkuhi



(RSF/IFEX) - RSF reported on 28 January 1998 that Faraj Sarkuhi, the
editor-in-chief of the literary monthly "Adineh" who was arrested on 27
January 1997 (see IFEX alerts), has been released. RSF has no further
information as to the date of Sarkuhi's release.

Background Information

The journalist was convicted to one year in prison for spreading
"propaganda" against the Islamic Republic of Iran (see IFEX alerts).
