(FNJ/IFEX) - On 3 February 2008, a mob attacked "Narayani Today", a newspaper based in Birgunj, Parsa, in the central region of Nepal.

According to Shatrughan Nepal, president of FNJ's Parsa Chapter, a group of people broke into the newspaper office, shouting, "This newspaper said those killed were criminals - which is a lie!" referring to news about three people who were killed by police, and whom police claimed were members of a criminal gang. The violent group also damaged the office and burnt official documents. Because of the attack, publication of the newspaper has stopped for the time being.

FNJ condemns the attack and asks the government to punish those involved, to compensate the media house and to provide adequate security for the media house and its employees.
