UPDATE: Suspected killer of journalist remanded in custody (MFWA, 11 November 2012)

(MFWA/IFEX) - Two persons have been arrested by the Sierra Leonean police in connection with the murder of Ibrahim Foday, a reporter of "The Exclusive," a Freetown-based daily newspaper, while covering a land dispute between two communities on the outskirts of Freetown.

Foday, a father of two, was stabbed to death by unknown assailants while covering a clash between residents of Grafton and Kossoh towns on 12 June 2011. The deceased, a resident of Grafton had, prior to his death, published a series of articles on the dispute that the Kossoh people were not pleased with.

The Media Foundation for West Africa's (MFWA) correspondent reported that the two arrested men, Victor Haffman, headman of Kossoh town, and Musa Samura, a police constable of the Operational Support Division (OSD), would soon be brought before court.

An autopsy report released on 14 June also confirmed that Foday died as a result of the attack.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) signed by its president Umaru Fofana stated that SLAJ would not rest until the killers of the journalist are brought to justice.
